HM-01 military droid was basic humanoid-shaped droid design which was used as a template for production of various droid models - usually for military, but in rare cases for civilian purposes - by different droid manufacturers. Initially the design was developed as per request of Hutt Cartel, and it was based on the ancient sith assassin droids. Like most humanoid-shaped models, it allowed to install wide array of the internal weapons and protective shileds, to complement its abilitiy to use most blasters, rifles, cannons and melee weapons.
The design was often used by the Empire as a template for both military and labor droids.
